Cabins and Apartments | Let your visit to Stavgard be a unique experience! In the Bandlund House, you get the opportunity to live like a Viking – for one night – in a reconstructed Viking house in the middle of Gotland's history. It combines tranquillity, nature and historical immersion with comfortable accommodation and carefully selected details.

Stavgard – a place to long for! Every year!

On south-eastern Gotland, in Burs parish, lies Stavgard Viking Farm – a unique cultural-historical environment surrounded by burial cairns and ruins from the Iron Age. Among them is the ruin of the largest known Iron Age house in northern Europe, a place that, according to tradition, may have been the home of the hero Beowulf.

Stavgard is a recreated Viking village where history, crafts and stories are brought to life. During the summer's opening hours, the farm is filled with activity: iron is forged, fabric is woven and dyed, bread is baked and various crafts are performed. As a visitor, you will be guided by our visitor hosts, who will tell you the exciting story of Store Stavar. After the guided tour, there is the opportunity to try archery, participate in handicrafts or bake bread in the spirit of history.

For those who want to deepen the experience further, Stavgard offers accommodation in Bandlundhuset – a freestanding, historically inspired accommodation where you get the opportunity to stay like a Viking for one night. The Bandlund House can be rented both during regular opening hours and during other times of the year.

Bandlundhuset consists of two rooms, one of which is furnished with a comfortable double bed for two people. The other room houses tables and benches as well as candle lanterns that create a warm and atmospheric evening environment. Outside the house there is a roofed hearth where supper is cooked over an open fire. The hearth is fully equipped with grill grates, pots, frying iron and utensils. Sit down in the yard in the evening sun, eat on wooden platters and drink from ceramic mugs while listening to birdsong and the wind rustling in the treetops.

When darkness falls, you can retreat into the Bandlund House, play the fist fiddle, read aloud from the Edda or simply enjoy the tranquility. A cloak is available to wrap around if the evening gets chilly. For those who want to explore the surroundings, a walk through the forest leads down to the sea.

Accommodation includes duvets, pillows, sheets and towels as well as access to a fully equipped Viking Age kitchen. Breakfast on Gotland ingredients is included, as well as admission to Stavgard in connection with the overnight stay. Ingredients for supper, along with unique recipes developed by Stavgard's meal archaeologist, can be ordered in advance.

Access to the Bandlund House is from 16.00. Check-in takes place at the visiting hosts between 12:00 and 16:30. Check-out no later than 11:00. Between 16:00 and 11:00 you will have the house at your disposal, but please note that volunteers can stay in other buildings on the farm.
